New GW teaser video - Chaos is coming!

So GW put up this teaser with a July 28, 2012 date.  Is this what I thinks it is?

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cgYjRG0dPig?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you go frame by frame, you can see what looks like a Chaos Daemon Prince, a lot of daemons, a Nurgle Plaguebearer, Slaanesh Daemonettes, and others.

So is this the release of Codex: Chaos Space Marines or something else?  One can only hope.

Just when I finally learned 5th...

So I luckily advanced ordered the gaming edition of 6th.  Here is what I got (its pretty nifty):

I'm Baaack!

So after my computer being demolished by a virus, I had to buy a new one.  Let the blogging continue!

Wandering through the GW site.

So every now and then, I like to click on all those links that seem to be hidden on websites.  GW is no exception.  Click on the bottom link: "Real Estate" and you get a 23 page booklet and how to build a GamesWorkshop store.  (I have edited some of the content as it is pretty long)

Thank the Gods, I can still paint

So GW is releasing its new paints.  The one concern that everyone has is, "What about my old paints?"  Thankfully GW has actually thought about its customers and released this on their website:

Sorry I can't post the actual chart.  But at least the link should get you through it.

GW's New Glues

So GW has announced the release of their new glues.

Are these any better than the old ones or are they just repackaged?

Are Wargamers Spoiled?

So to take a break from the table-top, I decided to build a model that's been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years.

I have been wanting to build this model for a while since its based on the pirate ship from Disney's "The Pirates of the Carribean" original theme-park ride.  So I opened the box, read the instructions, and formulated a game plan.  Just like us wargamers do with our models.

I assembled the deck first and painted it so I wouldn't have to worry about when it was fully assembled.  Just as we do with many of the table-top vehicles, its easier to paint them in stages in order to get all of the detail and those hard to reach spaces.  Thats when the fun ended.

I attempted to build the hull, but with enough play to insert the deck.  Unfortunately, some parts of the hull need to go on after the deck is in place to keep the hull together.  After about an hour of trying to come with a strategy, the only way to build it was to build it.  I assembled the entire ship just as the instructions showed and figured I would have to paint it when it was completely assembled.  There was no other way.

Now on to the gripes.  The hull did not fit snuggly as I thought.  There was a huge gap at the rear of the hull where it meets the back.  I thought maybe the hull was warped.  But when you try to push the pieces to match, the gap just spreads to the upper part which made it even worse.  Thank you green stuff for coming to the rescue.

The molding was horrible.  Many of the parts had a lot of flash.  On some pieces, I'm not sure if they are flash or mismolded because they are so thick.  I had to use a hobby knife and files to get them to the right size.

I've assembled a lot (and I mean a lot) of World War II airplanes, cars, and model railroad models and always something comes up (pieces that don't mate right, flash problems, and even the occassional missing sprue).  I have assembled many GW vehicles in both plastic and metal and have never had a difficult time putting them together.  Everything fit together with precision.

So, as wargamers are we just spoiled with the models we play with?  What problems have you run into with other companies models?

A New Direction/Back to Basics

After evaluating how things have progressed, I realize that things may have gotten off track.  Maybe I was bored or burnt out.  Painting commission models is great and gets me some much needed income, but I've noticed that there is still a large share of people who want terrain.

So, I will be dedicating most of my time to just that: terrain.  Miniature commissions will still be done, but my focus will be back to what this blog was intended for.  Building and showcasing terrain to use in the games we play.  Future posts will be focused on tutorials, WIP's, and showcases of other people's terrain that are strikingly good.  I will also be posting twice a week.  Lets see what the future holds.

Immerhass IV battle report

So the first battle in the campaign has been fought over the "Ares Badlands".  This tile grants the owner Fury which allows the controlling faction to launch two attacks per turn.  The attacking army is a force of 920 points of Space Marines run by Sean.  The defenders are 640 points of Chaos Space Marines by me.  A very lopsided battle indeed.

Tip of the Month: February Edition

A hot glue gun is ideal for temporarily attaching miniatures to a paint stand for painting.  Peel off when done.
Red hot!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Have a Heart.
Wishing all the guys and gals a Happy Valentine's Day!  Take your significant other out to dinner.  Today is a "no gaming day" (you can go one day without it).

Immerhass IV Campaign

So after a few years of mixing and matching, I finally found two unfortun... good friends to play a 40K campaign with.  The campaign uses a mix of WHF General's Compendium, Planetary Empires, and Risk for the rules.

We are starting at 500 points with points being added for captured tiles and special features (mines, farms, etc).  This should be a great way to get their armies up and painted as they have just started playing.

I will be posting regular updates as the campaign progresses.

Tip of the Month (and a little bit more): January edition

I realize that its been a while since my last post but that brings me to this month's tip:  Do something else!

Now don't go and get the wrong idea.  Most of us are heavily involved in the hobby, whether its building, painting, or playing.  For some, almost every waking hour is somehow dedicated to the games we love.  But, what happens when you start getting that nagging feeling that your work is not your best, the game is losing its fun, or your motivation to build things is lacking?  The best answer is:  Do something else!

At the end of last year, I had taken on so many commissions, I didn't have any time for my own stuff.  It was build, paint, send, build, paint, send.  So how to do I get back into the hobby without it feeling like a job?  Here are some examples:
Its an exact replica of a kitchen!
I built a kitchen for our house.  Its just like building a model, except bigger and with more powerful tools.
The bathroom bandit strikes again!
I took the kids out and played with them more!  Nothing tires you out like a two and a four year old.

The list goes on.  Now I'm not suggesting to leave the hobby entirely.  But just like anything else, you need to take a well deserved break now and then; a vacation to leave you refreshed and with a new perspective.
